Bracelet

It is a family tradition –
a tiny gold bracelet with little bells
a bird, a flower, an protective eye,
added at random to the sleek chain
Passed to every newlywed
a reminder to the expectations.

Many years later, the unused bracelet
rests heavily on my hopeless heart
like chains, it holds me a slave
to feel like a failure, even if privately.

  1. A nice poem about a bad situation, with a reminder always near. The bracelet could get lost. In a box someplace beneath something much, much, larger. Or get dropped into??? Etc.
I lost my wedding ring at the bottom of a lake. Of course I don’t dive and it was lost forever. So was that marriage the next year.
